Welcome to FCW's Health IT Workshop!

Dr. Susan Monarez opens the 2023 Health IT Workshop with a keynote session discussing ARPA-H's development of high-impact health and medical science technology, including the strategy and risk management involved in this kind of work. With more than 20 years of experience working with similar research organizations, including government, industry, and academia, Dr. Monarez deeply recognizes the culture necessary for embracing risk-taking in order to make leaps forward in accelerating better health outcomes for everyone.

Mr. Avinash Shanbhag oversees coordination with federal agencies and industry stakeholders for advancing health information technology interoperability for improved health care delivery. In this session, he discusses his work with all the health IT standards development organizations, including administration of the ONC Health IT Certification Program, the Certified Health IT Product Lists, and the certification testing tools.

To meet evolving health needs, federal health agencies are transforming how they operate, leverage technology, and empower their workforce. Establishing a culture that focuses on human-centered design and leveraging data as a strategic asset is a key to successfully accelerating these initiatives at the required speed, scale and agility. Our experts will share best practices in how to enable agencies through change, redefine the customer experience as a total experience and ensure agencies remain resilient and secure.

The pillars of zero trust are well defined, but it is hard to know where to start the journey to a zero trust architecture. This session will focus on the foundational role ServiceNow plays in getting started with a Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) strategy in support of zero trust. By transforming asset management, reducing risk, and automating security functions ServiceNow enables healthcare agencies to leverage data to create visibility and interoperability for enhanced security.

In 1954 London, there was a breakthrough in how cholera was understood and managed. What was once thought to be uncontrollable and misunderstood risk, fueled by rapid urbanization and overtaxed infrastructure, was tackled with new disease models and a map. It was a paradigm shift and the birth of modern epidemiology.  Using that example as a backdrop, this talk will describe how we are at a similar turning point in healthcare cybersecurity. Given the threat landscape, we will need to bring new models and insight. We must draw a new map for how to better defend our critical infrastructure. It is imperative we look not only at our individual organizations, but rather across the entire healthcare ecosystem and take steps to build a new model of collective defense.
